Vikings travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. for National Duals

Augustana (6-2) returns to action Friday and Saturday Jan. 9-10 for the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind presented by Hibiclens and the United States Marine Corps. The Vikings will start Friday, Jan. 9 off wrestling No. 11 Central Oklahoma at 8 a.m. (CT) in the first round. Followed by matching up against No. 1 Notre Dame (Ohio) or Central Missouri at 12 p.m. (CT) on Friday.

Augustana was last in action on Saturday and Sunday Jan. 3-4. On Saturday, Jan. 3 the Vikings won six bouts winning 21-15 over Concordia-Moorhead, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III. Followed by on Sunday, Jan. 4 were Augsburg College, ranked 11th in NCAA Division III, won with two late pins to down the Vikings 24-19 on Senior Day.

Augustana VikingsThe Vikings will head to Aberdeen, S.D. on Wednesday, Jan. 14 to open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition against Northern State. Augustana will follow the NSIC matchup and travel to Kenosha, Wis. for the Ranger Duals on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Vikings make moves in Super Region #3 rankings

  • TJ North (125) headlines 10 Vikings who appeared in the latest edition of the Super Region 3 rankings.
  • North, who boasts an 8-3 record remains as No. 1 in 125-pound weight class.
  • Morgan Engbrecht (133) and Jayd Docken (197) both remained at No. 3 in their weight classes.
  • Jacob Anderson (149) joins the other Vikings in the scoring portion of the rankings, by placing sixth.
  • North’s 10 points, Engbrecht and Docken’s four points each gave Augustana a seventh-place slot in the stacked Super Region #3.
  • Joining the Vikings’ top four is Michael Lowman tabbing the seventh place slot in the heavyweight division.
  • Jeremiah Peterson (141), Bradyn Neises (157), Parker Swanson (165) and Aero Amo (184) all checked in at eighth.
  • Tim Weber took ninth in the 174-pound weight class.
  • All 10 wrestlers ranked in the Super Region #3 are in the top-five of their respective weight classes in the NSIC rankings.

Scouting the Competition – No. 11 Central Oklahoma – First Round

  • Central Oklahoma enters the weekend ranked 11th in the latest NCAA Division II poll.
  • The Bronchos compete in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association
  • Central Oklahoma has compiled a 0-2 record this year, and finished fourth at the Jet Invitational in Wichita, KS.
  • The Bronchos two losses come from No. 4 Ouachita Baptist University with a 9-26 loss, and Fort Hays State losing 16-29.
  • One Central Oklahoma wrestler is nationally ranked in his respective weight class.
  • Chris Watson checks in at the No. 1 spot at 165 pounds and owns a 17-0 record this year.
  • This will be the first meeting for both team since the 2011-12 season.
