MWCA Scholarship Recipients 2015

The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association has awarded seven $1,000 scholarships this year. Any Senior who has wrestled at a Minnesota High School and is college-bound was eligible to apply.

Here are this year’s MWCA scholarship recipients:

Jacob Filk wrestles for Coach Todd Card at Hutchinson High School. Jacob is the son of Ted and Bobbi Filk and plans on attending South Dakota State University. Jacob is an “A” student and was also a key member of the Hutchinson football team.

Jacob Mages is the son of Jason and Angie Mages. A Senior at Paynesville High School, Jacob is coached by Tim Roberg. Jason’s college plans include attending The University of Minnesota. Jason is a 4.0 student and is involved in Student Council and Music as well as a variety of athletics in addition to wrestling.

Jackson Schauer from Grand Rapids High School is undecided about his college plans, but will have already earned his Associates in Arts degree from Itasca Community College when he graduates from high school. Jackson is coached by Dan Jinks and is the son of Mike and Mary Schauer.

Nick Mergen is the son of Bob and Lisa Mergen and attends Albany High School where he is coached by Caleb Watson. Nick plans on attending St. Thomas University. In addition to being an accomplished wrestler, Nick was an AP third team All State football player and is involved in many other high school activities.

Parker Jackson, the son of Todd and Jennifer Jackson is coached by Rob Ullyott at Detroit Lakes High School. In addition to wrestling, Parker is involved in all aspects of student life and activities. He was a key player on a strong football team, and participates in track while being active in student government. Parker is undecided at this point about his college choice.

Jack Barsody atttends Milaca High School where is is coached by Clay Hoeck and Mitch Vedders. He is the son of John and Kelly Barsody and plans on attending Notre Dame. Jack is ranked number one in his Senior class academically, and is active in student government, speech and other sports.

Treyton Austvold, son of Jon and Sherri Austvold attends New London – Spicer High School where he is coached by Jair Toedter. In addition to wrestling, Treyton has won awards in Football and Baseball, is a member of The National Honor Society and has an “A” GPA. Treyton plans to attend Concordia College in Moorhead.
