SMSU finishes weekend 2-0 with win over U-Mary
BISMARK, N.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team defeated U-Mary 28-15 to complete the weekend sweep, this afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling.
The Mustangs started out handling the dual as they took the first four bouts as Jordan Biehn took down Hunter Menendez with a 12-5 decision. In the 141 bout, Trent Butcher pinned Miguel Rivera at 5:00 to give the Mustangs a 15-0 after the first three bouts.
John Weeding tagged on some more points at 149 as he defeated Dane Fischer 12-2 for a major decision.
U-Mary scored its first points of the dual at 157 as Paul Michaelson defeated Patrick Kelley in a 6-2 decision. The Marauders added four more points in the 165 dual as Riley Nagel recorded a 14-2 major decision. SMSU still lead, 19-7 after six duals.
Jacob Begin earned his second pin of the weekend as he took down Jered Keller at 1:06 to push the Mustang lead to 27-7.
U-Mary took the next two duals by major decision to pull within 10 with the heavyweight dual remaining.
Cole Wilson earned his 26th win of the season as the heavyweight defeated Travis Smith by a 4-1 decision.
