South Dakota State University head wrestling coach Chris Bono announced Thursday that two high school standouts have signed a National Letter of Intent, indicating they will enroll in the fall and continue their wrestling pursuits with the Jackrabbits.
The additions to the Jackrabbit wrestling program include:
* Zac Carlson, 184 pounds, Kerkhoven, Minn.; and
* Lucas Eastman, 165 pounds, Rochester, Wash.
Carlson compiled a 201-35 career record with 92 pins for the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg High School program. Over his final three seasons he went 137-3, winning 46 matches twice and 45 matches once with one loss each year. He recorded a state runner-up finish as a sophomore and third-place finishes as both a junior and senior. In addition, Carlson posted a second-place finish at high school Nationals following his sophomore year and was a Junior Freestyle state champion in 2014, earning a spot on both Junior and Schoolboy national teams.
Eastman won state titles at 152 and 160 pounds and added a runner-up finish during his career at Rochester High School. He set a school record with 151 career wins against only nine defeats, recording three 40-win seasons that included a perfect 42-0 record as a junior. He added a 42-1 season as a sophomore and finished his prep career with a 45-2 mark his senior season. Eastman also set single-season school records with 31 pins, 59 near-falls and 157 takedowns.
Carlson and Eastman join a 2015 Jackrabbit recruiting class that five other high school standouts who signed during the fall signing period.
