Augustana ranked ninth in the Wrestling Coaches Association Preseason Poll

NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Augustana University wrestling team is ranked at No. 9 in the Wrestling Coaches Association Division II preseason poll that was released Wednesday afternoon by the association.

Augustana VikingsTJ North comes into the season ranked second in the 125-pound weight class behind St. Cloud State’s Tim Prescott, who defeated North at the NCAA National Championship last year. North is the only member of the Vikings squad to be ranked in a specific weight class this season. He returns for his senior season after finishing the last two seasons as the national runner-up.

Maryville University (Mo.) takes the top spot collecting all eight first place votes. Nebraska-Kearney, St. Cloud State, Mercyhurst, and Notre Dame (Ohio) round out the top five. Augustana was 18-5, 7-1 in the NSIC, in duals last season.

The Vikings will begin their season at the Daktronics Open at the Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D. on Sunday, Nov. 1.
