Mavericks Ready to Compete Saturday at Augsburg Open in Minneapolis

Mankato, Minn. — After last Saturday’s season-opening tournament, where MSU had 11 wrestlers place, the Mavericks look to carry momentum into the Augsburg Open. Action starts at 9 a.m., on Saturday in Minneapolis.

Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) will attempt to keep his unbeaten streak going after a very successful tournament last week at the Luther College Open. VanDeLoo won by fall in three of his four matches, highlighted by victories over the #4 rated wrestler in the NJCAA and the #9 rated wrestler in Division III.

MSU-Mankato MavericksAlphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs.) and Darick Vancura (Jr., 197 lbs.) return for the Augsburg Open, where a season ago they both placed second in their weight classes. Vruno is the only returning Maverick that competed in the NCAA Championships the previous year.

Malcolm Allen (Sr., 285 lbs.) comes into Saturday’s contest looking to build off a sixth-place finish last weekend at the Luther College Open. Allen led the team in decision victories last season with 18.
