Nonconference Tournament Season Heats up as Mavericks Head to Luther College Open

MANKATO, Minn. — Alphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs.), Malcolm Allen (Sr., 285 lbs.), and Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) lead the way for the young Minnesota State University squad as they head to Decorah, Iowa, on Saturday for the Luther College Open. Competition starts up at 9:00 a.m.

Vruno comes back for his senior campaign as the only returning Maverick that participated in the NCAA Championships a season ago. Vruno finished the 2014-15 season with a 28-12 overall record, while going 7-1 in dual competition.

MSU-Mankato MavericksVanDeLoo returns for the Mavericks coming off a solid 23-12 overall record. Allen anchored the heavyweight division for MSU last season, finishing with a 31-13 overall record.

Adam Cooling (Jr., 157 lbs.) and Darick Vancura (Jr., 174 lbs.) are among the other top returning Mavericks from the 2014-15 season.

The Mavericks continue their open season following the Luther College Open on Saturday, November 21, as they head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Auggie-Adidas Open.
