Young SJU Squad Competes at Yellowjacket Open

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Nine Saint John’s underclassmen competed at the Rochester Community & Technical College Open in the Johnnies’ 2015-16 wrestling season opener on Sunday, Nov. 1.

Freshman Luke Dodd (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) claimed second place at 184 pounds. He tallied a pin in his first-round match and then an 8-2 decision, but fell by a narrow 5-4 score to Division II MSU-Moorhead’s Austin May in the championship match.

Saint John's JohnniesFreshman Muqkadeen Poole (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict’s Prep) was the lone Johnnie to post three wins on the day. He registered a 55-second pin in his first collegiate match but dropped the second-round bout by a 6-1 score. Poole battled back with a 17-0 technical fall and another pin, but lost to MSU-Moorhead’s Brayden Kuntz in the consolation semifinal.

A majority of the SJU wrestling team is expected to compete at the Wisconsin-Stevens Point Open on Saturday, Nov. 7.
