Augustana wins nine bouts en route to a victory over Hastings College
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Augustana wrestling extended its winning streak to four with a 37-3 victory over Hastings College Friday night at the Elmen Center. The win gives the Vikings a 6-1 record on the season, while the Broncos drop to 0-3.
Augustana won the first nine matches of the dual en route to the non-conference victory. Javier Vieyra (125 pounds) got the Vikings going with a 16-2 major decision over Kyle James. Vieyra had three takedowns and two near falls during the match to secure the victory.
David Potratz (133 Pounds) and Colin Ayers (149 Pounds) would each continue the momentum for Augustana as they both each scored decisive victories in their respective weight classes.
Shawn Hatlestad (157 Pounds) won by fall two minutes and 38 seconds in the match to extend the Vikings lead to 22-0 over the Broncos. This was the third pin on the year for Hatlestad.
Ben Goodwin (165 Pounds) had a hard fought match against Christian Stutzman. Stutzman got an escape to bring the match to 3-2 in the third period, when Goodwin would get a takedown late in the match to get the 5-2 decision. Goodwin improved to 2-0 on the year.
Tim Weber (174 Pounds) was down after the first period against Billy Thompson 3-2. Weber would get an escape and a takedown to take a 5-3 lead at the end of second period. Thompson would get a takedown 30 seconds left in the match but Weber would then score a reversal just as time expires to get the 8-6 decision over Thompson.
Logan Henning (184 Pounds) pinned Dallas Doupnik 52 seconds in the match for his fifth pin of the season.
Clayton Wahlstrom (197 pounds) would score four takedown in the match to secure a 9-5 decision over Jose Rodriquez to give the Vikings a 37-0 lead.
Lane Lettau (285 pounds) would lose a tough 8-3 decision over Javier Silva.
The Vikings will have a week off for the holiday break but return to action on Jan. 2 and 3, as they take on Concordia-Moorhead and Augsburg.
