Augustana sweeps the Augustana Duals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- The Augustana University wrestling team hosted the Augustana Duals at the Elmen Center on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings had an impressive showing going 3-0 on the afternoon, including wins over Morningside, Truman State and Northwestern (Iowa).

Augustana opened the day with a 31-9 win over Morningside before taking down Truman State 41-3 and Northwestern 43-3. The Vikings improved to 5-1 on the season with the clean sweep on Saturday.

The Vikings lost the first two matches of the dual by way of decisions before rebounding to win the next six weight classes to gain a large lead

With his team trailing 6-0 after the first two bouts of the dual, Augustana’s Jeremiah Peterson (141 pounds) pinned Wilfred Charbono in 1:46 to quickly tie the bout at 6-6.

Jacob Anderson would continue the momentum in the 149-pound bout getting an 8-3 decision over Steven Garcia putting Augustana in front for the first time in the dual at 9-6.

The Vikings then quickly took a 15-6 lead when Shawn Hatlestad (157 pounds) pinned Drake Swedlund one minute into the bout.

Bruce Lemon Jr. and Tim Weber each secured decision victories to give the Vikings a five-match win streak in the dual.

Aero Amo would get another quick victory pinning Logan Moore 35 seconds in the match.

Clayton Wahlstrom would lose in a hard fought match in overtime to Jared McCoy by way of a takedown.

Michael Lowman would finish for the Vikings scoring a 7-2 decision and giving Augustana a 31-9 victory.

Augustana 41 Truman State 3

After a loss at 125-pounds by a way of decision, the Vikings would come back and go on to win the next nine matches against the Bulldogs.

Adrian Lozano (133 pounds) would get Augustana on the board first scoring a 15-5 majority decision over Joe King to gain the 4-3 lead.

Colin Ayers (149 Pounds) and Shawn Hatlestad (157 Pounds) would each get back to back pins in their respected weight classes to extend the Vikings lead to 20-3.

Bruce Lemon Jr. (165 Pounds) would get a 5-3 sudden victory when he scored a takedown against Steven Serbinski in Overtime. Serbinski had Lemon in his grasp to get the takedown,  until Lemon would turn over and score the takedown and the overtime victory.

Aero Amo continues his dominant day pinning Chase Wrisinger in 15 seconds.

Lane Lettau (197 Pounds) and Michael Lowman (285 Pounds) each scored victories by way of a 6-4 decision and a technical fall to give Augustana the 41-3 victory and improve to 2-0 on the day.

Augustana 43 Northwestern (Iowa) 3

Just like in the second dual the Vikings fell early losing in the 125 pounds, then would go on to win the next nine matches in the dual.

David Potratz (133 pounds) got the takedown early in the match and that was all Potratz needed to secure the 2-1 decision over Preston Hoebelheinrich.

Bruce Lemon Jr. was tied with Brandon Schuler in the third period when Lemon escaped out of hold and scored a takedown late in the third to win by way of a 7-3 decision.

Ben Goodwin (174 Pounds) and Logan Henning (184 Pounds) were impressive in their first dual appearance of the season with each getting pins in their weight classes.

Aero Amo moved up to 197 pounds to take on Tyree Cox. Amo won a 7-2 decision getting three takedowns in the match.

Michael Lowman would pin Raymond Schroder 19 seconds in the match to give the Vikings a 43-3 victory.
