Johnnies Pick Up First Dual Win of the Season, 38-12 at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John’s wrestling earned its first dual win of the season with a 38-12 victory at St. Olaf on Monday, Dec. 14, in Northfield.

SJU (1-6 dual record) took advantage of three forfeits and three bonus point wins in the victory. The Johnnies won the first five weights, including pins from seniorJohn Wells (Janesville, Wis./Milton) and junior Branden Schorr (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) at 125 and 157 pounds, respectively.

Saint John's JohnniesSt. Olaf (0-6 dual record) stopped the bleeding with back-to-back wins from Sameh Almousa (165) and Garrett Beaman (174).

Junior Glenn Castro (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) added five more points to the team’s ledger with a technical fall at 184 pounds.

The Oles’ Zack Gibson, who is ranked as high as sixth nationally by D3wrestle.com, ended the dual with a narrow 2-0 win over junior Colin Fisher (Eagan, Minn.) at heavyweight.

The Johnnies travel to Las Vegas for four duals on Monday, Dec. 21, at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino. SJU is scheduled to wrestle No. 27 Delaware Valley (Pa.), No. 6 Alma (Mich.), No. 10 Coe (Iowa) and No. 16 Baldwin Wallace (Ohio), beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
