SJU Wrestling Wraps Up 2015 in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Saint John’s wrestling ended the 2015 portion of its schedule on Monday, Dec. 21, at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas, Nev.

SJU (1-10 dual record) held a 12-11 lead against sixth-ranked Alma (Mich.) through 165 pounds but surrendered three straight pins in an eventual 29-18 loss to start the day. The Johnnies forfeited two weights in the final three duals in losses to Dubuque of Iowa (35-19), No. 10 Coe of Iowa (39-12) and No. 16 Baldwin Wallace of Ohio (32-16).

Saint John's JohnniesJunior heavyweight Colin Fisher (Eagan, Minn.) improved to 5-5 on the season with a perfect 3-0 record. He tallied two pins and a wild 5-3 decision in the second round of overtime to end the day.

Senior John Wells (Janesville, Wis./Milton) posted a 3-1 record, including two bonus-point wins, at 125 pounds.

Senior Ben Henle (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) won his first two matches at 141 pounds, via pin and major decision, but bumped up to 149 pounds and dropped his last two of the day. He is now 12-7 on the year and is ranked sixth nationally at 141 pounds by D3wrestle.com.

Freshman Jack Barsody (Onamia, Minn./Milaca), like Henle, started the day with two straight wins at 165 pounds but lost his last two to nationally-ranked wrestlers.

The Johnnies return to action Jan. 9 at the Lakeland Duals in Plymouth, Wis. SJU is scheduled to wrestle four duals, beginning at noon: Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Dubuque, Chicago (Ill.) and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.).
