Two late pins help Augustana defeat Concordia-Moorhead
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Augustana Wrestling improved its winning streak to five with a 26-12 victory over Concordia-Moorhead Saturday afternoon at the Elmen Center. The win gives the Vikings a 7-1 record, while the Cobbers drop to 10-2.
Logan Henning (197 Pounds) got the Vikings on the board first with a 6-4 decision over Jake Briggs. Henning had the a 2-0 lead early in the third period. Briggs would get two takedowns in the period, but Henning would escape both takedowns to secure the victory. Henning improves to 3-0 dual record on the season.
Michael Lowman (285 Pounds) kept it going with a 13-3 major decision over Kody Van Den Eykel. Lowman would get five takedowns and a reversal during to match to get the major decision. This is Lowman’s third major decision victory of the season.
Concordia-Moorhead would go and win the next two matches by way of decisions to cut the Augustana lead to 7-6 after four matches.
Brandon Charbonneau (141 Pounds) would score a 12-3 major decision over Karl Keeler. Charbonneau would get four takedowns and a reversal in the match to secure the major decision. Charbonneau goes to 3-1 on the season.
Jacob Anderson (149 pounds) was down 2-1 late in the third period when he escaped from a hold from Ty Johnson. Anderson would score a takedown with 30 seconds left in the match to get a 4-2 decision over Johnson.
The Cobbers would get a decision at 157 pounds when Ben Cousins gets a 10-4 decision over Brandon Chesnut. Then win again at 165 pounds as Joe Heinz scored a 4-0 decision over Bruce Lemon Jr. to make it 14-12 Augustana.
The Vikings would get two first period pins in the last two matches by Ben Goodwin (174 pounds) and Aero Amo (184 Pounds) to help secure the 26-12 victory. This was Goodwin’s second pin victory of the season and the seventh for Amo.
Concordia will head out on the road for another top tier dual tournament. The Cobbers will participate in the annual Mat Mayhem National Duals on Friday, Jan. 8 and Saturday, Jan. 9. Concordia has finished in the top 3 at the meet, which features the top teams in Division III, the past two seasons.
Augustana will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn. at 2 p.m.
