Augustana wins eight bouts in victory over MSU-Moorhead
MOORHEAD, Minn.- Augustana bounced back with 33-7 victory over MSU Moorhead on Friday night. The win gives the Vikings a 15-3 record, 4-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the loss dropped the Dragons to a 5-6 record, 0-4 in the NSIC.
Augustana got on the board in the first two matches with pins by Tim Weber (174 Pounds) and Aero Amo (184 Pounds).
Clayton Wahlstrom (197 Pounds) kept the momentum going for the Vikings with a 10-1 majority decision over Cody Nelson. Wahlstrom had three takedowns and a reversal during the match.
Michael Lowman (285 Pounds) continued the dominance for Augustana with a 9-0 majority decision over Nadar Abdullatif. Lowman had two takedowns, a reversal and a two-point nearfall in the match.
Duncan Stoebner (125 pounds) improved his record to 5-3 with a 5-3 decision over Jared Goldsmith. Stoebner scored a takedown in the third period to secure the victory.
Brandon Charbonneau (141 Pounds) won a tough 8-5 decision over Kristian Vazquez. Charbonneau was down 4-2 heading into the second period when he scored an escape and two takedowns in the final two periods to seal the victory.
Colin Ayers (149 Pounds) secured the Vikings third major decision of the dual with a 10-2 victory over Issac Novacek. This was Ayers’ third major decision victory on the season.
Shawn Hatlestad (157 Pounds) got a 4-3 decision over Garrett Hoffner. Hatlestad and Hoffner were tied 2-2 heading into the third period, Hatlestad scored a takedown 30 second left in the match to gain the decision.
MSU-Moorhead will travel to Northern State on Thursday for another NSIC dual. That dual begins at 7 p.m. in Aberdeen, S.D.
Augustana returns to action next weekend as they host Minot State on Friday, then travel to Upper Iowa on Sunday.
