WORTHINGTON, Minn — Minnesota State wrestlers Andrew McFall (Fr., 125 lbs.)(Unattached), Paul Selman (Fr., 133 lbs.), Daniel Close (Fr., 149 lbs.), and Chaydon O’Fallon (So., 197 lbs.) all placed second at the 18-team tournament on Saturday. Six other wrestlers placed in the top eight.
McFall finished 2-1 on the day, with two decision victories. His lone loss of the day came in the first-place match where he fell to Joel Salomon (St. Cloud State) by a 5-0 decision.
Paul Selman also advanced all the way to the first-place match. Selman finished with three victories on the day, one by fall, one by technical fall, and one by decision. He ended his day with a loss to Mike Rhone (St. Cloud State) where he fell via fall in 20 seconds to finish second.
Daniel Close finished 3-1 on the day to place second in his division. His three wins included two from fall and one from decision. He reached the first-place match, where he fell to Carson Brolsma (Unattached) by a 20-3 tech fall.
O’Fallon was the fourth Maverick on the day to place second. He picked up a decision and major decision victory on his way to the first-place match, where he fell to Atavion Oliver (Ellsworth Community College) by decision, 5-2.
Six other Mavericks placed in the top eight on Saturday. Chris Zimmer (Jr., 285 lbs.)(Unattached) placed third, Colby McIntire (Fr., 141 lbs.)(Unattached), Dylan Herman (So., 149 lbs.), and Brad Maas (Sr., 165 lbs.) placed sixth, and Gage Thom (Fr., 174 lbs.)(Unattached) and Logan Linderbaum(Fr., 285 lbs.)(Unattached) placed eighth.
The Mavericks will pick up action again on Thursday, January 18 as the take on the Johnnies of St. John’s University in Taylor Center. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
