St. Cloud State University redshirt senior Jay Hildreth (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Lewis Central H.S.) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 11-18.
Hildreth helped lead the number two ranked Huskies to a pair of key dual matches on Jan. 16 at the Ranger Duals tournament in Kenosha, Wisc. At 149-pounds, Hildreth started his day with a pinfall victory at 4:30 against Tony Vaughn during the Huskies’ 34-8 win over #18 Indianapolis.
Hildreth capped the day with a huge 9-1 major decision victory over #5 nationally ranked Frank Yaltoni of Wisconsin-Parkside. The win helped provide key points for the Huskies their 25-15 win over #6 ranked Wisconsin-Parkside on their home mat in Kenosha.
The victories improved Hildreth’s record to 20-4 this season for St. Cloud State (8-1, 0-0 NSIC). Hildreth was ranked #6 in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II wrestling polls at 149-pounds.
The Huskies will continue their 2015-16 season on Jan. 22 with a dual match at Minnesota State Moorhead and on Jan. 23 with a dual at Minot State.
