Huskies roll into NWCA semi’s with win over Lake Erie

The #2 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team advanced to the semifinal round of the 2016 NWCA Division II National Duals with a convincing 32-6 victory over Lake Erie College on Friday, Jan. 8, in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The victory moves the Huskies into an 11 a.m. match-up with Pitt-Johnstown in tournament semi’s on Saturday, Jan. 9. Pitt-Johnstown scored a 37-7 win over Nebraska Kearney in its quarterfinal match. The other half of the semifinal bracket will feature Maryville and Notre Dame (Ohio) at 1 p.m. on Jan. 9. The championship match is slated for 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 9.

SCSU HuskiesSCSU opened with a 5-1 win by #1 Tim Prescott at 125-pounds followed by a pin by Jarred Oftedahl at 133-pounds and a 9-0 major win by Taner Trembley at 141. Larry Bomstad scored an 18-9 major decision at 157-pounds and #1 Clint Poster continue his winning ways with an 11-0 major decision at 165.

SCSU’s Clayton Jennissen gained a 4-3 win at 174-pounds and Chevy Farris posted an 8-3 win at 184-pounds. The match was wrapped up with a 16-0 win by #1 Austin Goergen at 285-pounds.
