St. Cloud State on the road to Kenosha

The #2 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Ranger Duals tournament on Saturday, Jan. 16. The Huskies (5-1, 0-0 NSIC) will meet up with three dual match opponents in the tournament that will take place in Kenosha, Wisc.

The Huskies will open tournament competition at 9 a.m. on Jan. 16 with a match up against McKendree, which received votes in latest NCAA national poll and was ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II Super 3 region poll on Jan. 12. The Huskies will continue the tournament with a 10:30 a.m. match against Indianapolis, which received a #16 national ranking and a fifth NCAA Division II Super Region 2 ranking in the latest polls. The day will be completed with a match against host Wisconsin-Parkside at Noon on Jan. 16.

SCSU HuskiesUW-Parkside is ranked first in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region 2 poll and the Rangers also received a #6 ranking in the last NCAA Division II national poll. Last year, the Huskies scored a perfect 3-0 record at the Ranger Duals, which included a 40-7 win over Indianapolis, a 40-6 win over Tiffin and a 20-12 win over McKendree.

St. Cloud State Wrestling News and Notes:

  • The Huskies placed second at the 2016 NWCA Division II National Duals on Jan. 8-9 in Fort Wayne, Ind. SCSU a 43-3 first round win over #18 Newberry and continued its run with a 32-6 victory over #9 Lake Erie. In the semifinals, SCSU posted a 30-7 win over #7 Pitt-Johnstown. In the title match, SCSU lost a 21-15 tilt against #5 Notre Dame College of Ohio.
  • Jarred Oftedahl, who is unranked nationally, scored a 4-0 record at the NWCA Duals and his win total included a 5-1 upset against #5 ranked David Bravery of Notre Dame College of Ohio.
  • #1 Austin Goergen was 4-0 in action at 285-pounds at the NWCA Duals. Goergen now owns a 19-0 record this season with 13 pins.
  • Goergen charted a pair of 16-0 tech falls at the NWCA Duals against #3 D.J. Simms of Pitt-Johnstown and #8 Evan Loughman of Lake Erie.
  • #1 ranked Clint Poster (165-pounds) lost his first match of the 2015-16 season with a 6-4 OT loss to Juwan Edmond of Notre Dame at the NWCA Duals. Poster owns a 21-1 record this season for the Huskies.
  • SCSU head coach Steve Costanzo won his 200th career win as a college coach with the Huskies’ 43-3 win over Newberry on Jan. 8. Costanzo now owns a 202-57-2 career record in 17 years as a college coach. In 10 seasons at SCSU, Costanzo is 141-27 as the Huskies’ head coach.
  • Clayton Jennissen added a 3-0 record at the NWCA Duals in action at 174-pounds for the Huskies. He now owns an 18-3 record this season.
  • Clint Poster has 129 career victories at SCSU. He is closing in on the SCSU team record of 144 career victories notched Tad Merritt from 2008-12.
  • SCSU currently owns a 5-1 record and it will continue the season with a trip to the Ranger Duals in Kenosha, Wisc. on Jan. 16. SCSU was ranked #2 in the nation in the latest NCAA DII rankings with Clint Poster (165), Austin Goergen (285) and Tim Prescott (125) all earning number one individual rankings in the DI polls.
  • In the last NCAA Division II Super 3 Regional rankings released on Jan. 12, the Huskies were ranked second in the region behind Maryville.
  • In the latest NCAA Division II Super 3 Regional rankings released on Jan. 12, the following SCSU wrestlers were ranked in the region’s individual polls: 125 – Tim Prescott 1st, 133 – Jarred Oftedahl 5th, 149 – Jay Hildreth 2nd, 157 – Larry Bomstad 6th, 165 – Clint Poster 1st, 174 – Clayton Jennissen 2nd, 184 – Uthman Rabiu 5th, 197 – V.J. Giulio 3rd and 285 – Austin Goergen 1st.
  • The Huskies will open up their 2015-16 NSIC dual season on Jan. 22 with a match at MSU Moorhead. The Huskies have won four consecutive NSIC championships in 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012. The Huskies are 31-0 in NSIC action during that stretch and they have not lost a NSIC dual since an 18-13 loss at Augustana on Jan. 27, 2011.
  • The loss for the Huskies against Notre Dame of Ohio on Jan. 9 snapped a 17-match win streak for the Huskies. The last loss for the Huskies was an 18-16 setback against Maryville in the semifinals of the 2015 NWCA DII National Duals on Jan. 10, 2015. This marks just the sixth dual match loss for the Huskies since the start of the 2010-11 season.
