University of Minnesota Coaches Corner – January 6, 2016

In this week’s episode of Coach’s Corner, Head Assistant Coach Brandon Eggum offers his review of the team’s top performers at last weekend’s Souther Scuffle, as well as some insights into the Gopher lineup going forward.

As a team, Minnesota finished sixth at the Southern Scuffle. Four Gophers placed in the event, led by Brett Pfarr’s runner-up performance at 197 pounds. Pfarr went 5-1 on the weekend, dominating in the early rounds before defeating a pair of ranked wrestlers to reach the championship bout. Michael Kroells matches Pfarr’s 5-1 record and placed third at heavyweight, also knocking off a pair of ranked opponents during the event. In addition, Tommy Thorn finished fifth at 141 and Sam Brancale placed eighth at 133.
