Dragons Drop 28-7 Dual to No. 8 Upper Iowa
FAYETTE, Iowa — No. 8-ranked Upper Iowa won eight of 10 matches on its way to a 28-7 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling Friday night in Fayette, Iowa.
MSUM fell to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the league with the loss, while Upper Iowa is 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC.
The Dragons earned wins at 133 and 285 on the day. Junior Blake Bosch, ranked No. 2 in the nation at 133 pounds, earned a 7-4 win over Upper Iowa’s Matt Paulus to get MSUM on the board, tying the match at 3-3. Bosch is now a team-best 21-5 on the year.
Junior Nader Abdullatif had the Dragons’ most impressive win of the night, beating Avery Jacobs by an 18-4 major decision at 285 to account for MSUM’s second win.
After Bosch’s win at 133 for MSUM, Upper Iowa won the next seven matches, but three were close. At 141, redshirt freshman Kristian Vazquez battled tough at 141 against Jordan Roths before falling 2-0.
Freshman Austin May also had a close match at 184 before falling to Upper Iowa’s Dalton Westerlund, 6-3. At 197, Dragon freshman Cody Anderson also lost a tight contest, losing 3-2 to Ryan Parmely.
The Dragons will venture out of conference for a dual at Jamestown on Tuesday before hosting No. 2-ranked St. Cloud State on Jan. 22.
