Augustana sends 10 wrestlers to the NCAA Super Region III Championship at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Feb. 27-28 to see who will earn a bid to the NCAA Championship. The top four wrestlers of each weight class at the NCAA Super Region III Championship will earn a spot into the NCAA Championship held in Sioux Falls, S.D. on March 11 and 12.
Super Region Three Projected Lineup
Augustana’s grapplers will have their work cut out for them when they try to place in the top-five to earn a spot in the 16-wrestler field at the NCAA Championship.
125 Pounds: Duncan Stoebner will have his challenge cut out for him as defending national champion No. 1 Tim Prescott from St. Cloud State will lead the regional field.
133 Pounds: David Potratz will be tested in a stacked region field, led by no. 2 Blake Bosch from MSU Moorhead. Three more wrestlers from the region are ranked in the top-eight of Division II.
141 Pounds: Brandon Charbonneau has a lighter field than the teammates flanking him, but Charbonneau will have to compete with No. 1 Nate Rodriguez from Maryville. Charbonneau comes in ranked No. 6 in Super Region II
149 pounds: Colin Ayers will have a tough test as three wrestlers come in ranked nationally including No. 3 Keenan Hagerty from Maryville. Ayers come in ranked at No. 6 in Super Region III.
157 pound: No. 1 Terrell Wilbourn will highlight the weight class in which Shawn Hatlestad will try to earn a spot to the NCAA Championship. The class features three wrestlers ranked nationally. Hatlestad comes in ranked at No. 6 in Super Region III.
165 pounds: Mitch Rechtzigel will be part of a stacked field in which four wrestlers are ranked in the top-eight including No. 1 Clint Poster from St. Cloud State who finished third last year at the NCAA Championship at 157 pounds.
174 pounds: Wrestling up for the Vikings, Tim Weber will be in a bracket that features three national top-eight wrestlers.
184 Pounds: Aero Amo holds the top region ranking and is No. 4 in the country and his top competition will be No. 8 Uthman Rabiu from St. Cloud State. Amo owns a 3-0 in record against wrestlers ranked in Super Region three top-six.
197 pounds: Only two representatives from the Vikings’ super region are nationally ranked at 197 pounds led by No. 2 Ryan Beltz from Maryville. Clayton Wahlstrom will be tasked for the challenge.
285 pounds: Michael Lowman returns to the Super Region III Championship as the Vikings’ lone NCAA qualifier from last year. Lowman comes in ranked at No. 4 in Super Region III and is 3-2 against wrestlers in the Region. Three wrestlers come in ranked nationally in the region including No. 3 Cole Wilson from Southwest Minnesota State.
