INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA announced brackets for the Division II Wrestling Championships that will be held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., March 11-12. Augustana’s Aero Amo qualified for the national championships on Sunday after winning the NCAA Super Region Three 184-pound championship.
Amo will be making his first career appearance at the NCAA Championships when he squares-off against Brandon O’Neill (9-13) of Ashland University.
Amo, a native of Rapid City, S.D., enters the national tournament with a 32-1 record on the season. He was the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 184 pounds in Super Region Three and earned his first region championship this past weekend at the Elmen Center. Amo was ranked fourth in the latest national rankings and enters the national championships with 15 pins on the year.
Amo received a bye in the first round of the Super Region Three Championship last weekend before picking up a 6-5 decision over Lindenwood’s Laurel Landals in the quarterfinals. He then pinned Upper Iowa’s Dalton Westerlund with one second remaining in the first period to earn himself a spot in the region championship match. In front of a home crowd, Amo won a 4-2 decision over St. Cloud State’s Uthman Rabiu to secure the 184-pound region championship.
