Bosch is Super Region 3 Champion at 133 Pounds

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Blake Bosch is a regional champion and is marching on to the national tournament.

The Minnesota State University Moorhead junior picked up the Super Region 3 title at 133 pounds on Sunday for his first regional title of his collegiate career. Bosch is the first regional champion for MSUM since Corey Ulmer won the title at 125 pounds in 2012.

Bosch, who was an All-American after finishing eighth at 133 at the national meet in 2015, is heading to the national tournament for the third straight season.

MSU-Moorhead Dragons“Winning the region was one of my top goals for this year and it means a lot to me,” Bosch said. “I’m not satisfied yet. I’ve got two weeks yet to prepare for my ultimate goal.”

Bosch faced Matt Paulus of Upper Iowa in the semifinals on Sunday. He recorded an 11-6 decision win over Paulus to reach the championship match.

In the finals, Bosch put together and impressive match, pinning Dakota Bauer of Maryville in 2:11 to secure the title.

“I definitely felt like I wrestled well this weekend,” Bosch said. “I gave up a few points in my semifinal match just being over aggressive, but other than that, I felt smooth on my feet and confident in every position.”

Bosch (31-5) has won 23 matches in a row.

“Blake had a great tournament,” MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said. “He wrestled very aggressive and recorded a technical fall in two of his three matches. He is wrestling with a lot of confidence and we are looking for him to have a good national tournament.”

Jared Goldsmith saw his season end in the consolation bracket at 125. The freshman suffered a 3-2 loss to SMSU’s Taylor Curtis. He finished the weekend at 2-2 and the season at 16-15.

Junior Isaac Novacek was eliminated at 149 after being pinned by Damian Penichet in 2:19 in the consolation bracket. Novacek finished the weekend 2-2 and the season at 18-18.

Bosch will compete at the national tournament on March 11-12 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
