Mustangs cruise past Minot State
MARSHALL, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team cruised past Minot State 39-9 on Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.
SMSU (7-9, 3-3 NSIC) started with a 12-0 lead after Minot State took a forfeit the first two bouts.
Cortez Arredondo picked up points for the Mustangs at 141 pounds with an 8-2 decision to give SMSU a 15-0 lead.
Minot State picked up its first points at 149 pounds with a 9-4 decision, but SMSU still led 15-3.
The Mustangs started a roll at 157, as Patrick Kelley pinned his opponent at 4:18 and Kegen Fingalsen followed it with another pin at 4:16 at 165 pounds. Kyle Begin joined the festivity with a pin a 1:02 to give SMSU a commanding 33-3 lead.
The Beavers scored their final points at 197 pounds with a pin.
Cole Wilson finished the dual with a 3-0 decision to record his 12th straight win and to remain undefeated in NSIC action.
Southwest Minnesota State will host Minnesota State on next Friday at 7 p.m.
