MANKATO, Minn. — With the regular season now concluded, the Maverick wrestling team will head to Sioux Falls, S.D. this weekend for the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 Tournament. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will go on to the NCAA Division II Championships.

As a team, Minnesota State ranks fifth in the region. Maryville tops the rankings at number one, while fellow NSIC teams St. Cloud State and Upper Iowa rank second and fourth respectively. Lindenwood is ranked third in the region.

MSU-Mankato MavericksSix Mavericks go into the tournament ranked in the top-six in the region. Alphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs.) ranks third regionally. Vruno is currently 16-5, winning his last eight contests. He is seeking his third career berth in the NCAA Tournament. #7 Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.) is also ranked third in his region. Mincey holds a record of 20-1 on the season, with his only loss coming to Larry Bomstad (St. Cloud State) in their dual back on February 6. A rematch could be looming with Bomstad being ranked second in the region.

#7 Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.) is the third Maverick to rank third in his respective bracket. Cooling is 22-3 in his junior campaign, and has won 10 of his last 11 matches. Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) is the fourth and final Maverick to be ranked third in the region. VanDeLoo sits currently at 18-3 on the year.

Darick Vancura (Jr., 197 lbs.) ranks sixth in his respective bracket. Four of Vancura’s last six victories have been via fall. Malcolm Allen (R-Sr., 285 lbs.) rounds off the list of Mavericks ranked regionally, where he is currently fifth. Allen is coming off of a nail biter sudden victory loss to #3 Cole Wilson (Southwest Minnesota State) back on February 12.

Wrestling will be going on all day throughout both days, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Following the regional tournament, there will be a week off before the NCAA Division II Championships on March 11 and 12, also in Sioux Falls, S.D.
