Freudenberg and Sanders to be Inducted into MWCA David Bartelma Hall of Fame

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Two individuals with ties to the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling program — former team captain Lyle Freudenberg and current assistant coach Eric Sanders — will be inducted into Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame on April 30.

Freudenberg, who coached at Foley High School for more than three decades before retiring in 2014, wrestled for MSUM from 1970-74 and was the NIC champion at 150 pounds. He also served as a team captain. Freudenberg led Foley to three Minnesota Class A state championships during his tenure. He is a native of Parkers Prairie, Minn., and graduated from MSUM in 1974.

MSU-Moorhead DragonsSanders, who has served as an assistant coach at MSUM since the 2011-12 season under Head Coach Kris Nelson, had a stellar prep career at Wabasha-Kellogg High School, where he compiled a career record of 223-27. He was a five-time state champion and a six-time state entrant. Eric was named MWCA’s Mr. Minnesota in 2003 and was an NHSCA All-American. After high school, Sanders attended North Dakota State, where he compiled 75 career victories. He placed third at the regional tournament two straight years and was a DII national qualifier in 2004. He was named to the Western Wrestling Conference (WWC) All-Conference Third Team as a junior and a senior and was named to the WWC All-Academic Team as a senior. Sanders currently serves as an Application Systems Administrator for Moorhead Area Public Schools.

The Hall of Fame induction dinner will be held on Saturday, April 30 at McKinney’s on Southside in Benson, Minn. The dinner is at 5 p.m. with the induction ceremony to follow.
