Mavericks Prepare for Final Test at NCAA Division II Championships

MANKATO, Minn. — As the NCAA Division II Championships near, four Maverick wrestlers will head into the field of battle on Friday and Saturday. Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.), Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.), Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.), and Malcolm Allen (R-Sr., 285 lbs.) will all be in action this weekend.

Matt Mincey comes into the final tournament of the season with a record of 23-2. Mincey finished second in his regional bracket, and will square off against Samphanh Viengmany (Tiffin) in the first round. Viengmany stands at 26-13 on the season, and arrives at the tournament after placing third in his regional bracket.

MSU-Mankato MavericksAfter finishing third in his regional weight class, Adam Cooling is making his first appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships. Cooling holds a record of 26-4 this season, and will face John Blankenship (Pitt-Johnstown) in the first round. Blankenship is 24-12 on the year, and qualified for the tournament after placing second in his regional bracket.

Scott VanDeLoo finished fourth in his regional bracket to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships, to go along with a 22-5 record. He will compete against Montrail Johnson (UW-Parkside) in the first round. Johnson finished first in his region, and holds a record of 30-4 on the season.

Malcolm Allen rounds off the list of Mavericks competing this weekend after placing second in his region. Allen holds a record of 19-12 on the year, and will face Damon Sims (Pitt-Johnstown) in the first round of action. Sims placed third in his regional bracket and has a record of 29-7 on the season.
