In a special Friday episode of Coach’s Corner, Minnesota Head Assistant Coach Brandon Eggum provides additional detail about pre-seeding the Big Ten Championships and NCAA qualifier allocations for the NCAA Championships in two weeks.
Big Ten pre-seeds were announced earlier this week, with six Gophers seeded across the 10 weight classes. The highest-seeded Minnesota grapplers are Brett Pfarr and Tommy Thorn, who are seeded second at 197 and 141 pounds, respectively.
For NCAA qualifier allocations, the Big Ten has been awarded 71 spots at NCAAs, with at least six wrestlers guaranteed entry into the national tournament at every weight class, and as many as nine automatic spots at two weights (133 and 174 pounds).
The Big Ten Championships kick off tomorrow morning (Saturday) in Iowa City, wrapping up on Sunday. The NCAA Championships run March 17 through 19 in New York City.
