This message is for anyone who cares.
No matter how many times we hear certain words, phrases or instructions in life, we/they need to be subjected to constant renewal. Just because we have seen or heard something, does not mean we know it or more importantly do it. Anything worthwhile must be reviewed, studied and put into action, again and again, a constant renewal of focus and stimulation. Take praying for example, would or do you not pray anymore or today because you already know the prayer and you prayed two weeks ago? Do you refrain from telling loved ones today that you love them because you already told them a week ago? Athletes, are you not running, lifting, and working on skills because you already did a week ago and you already know them? Students, are you done studying and reviewing because you already have done plenty of that? No!!
Much of our lives and certainly the recipe for growth, development, success and reaching goals, consists of many repetitive ideas and behaviors over and over. It’s about mastering the fundamentals regardless of the arena; in fact, it’s key in every arena of life. I always hear people say “I already heard this or I already know this.” I say “Really!” Why are you not doing it? I’m guilty as well. My point is there’s a reason we continue to hear and see certain words and behaviors and most require a lifetime of attention and repetition. Life and nature only allow us to keep only what’s in constant use. The moment we stop exercising muscle, brain, or faculty, deterioration and power leave us. The power is stripped. We have to constantly nourish our goals and desires.
The time is now! Take action! Each time you postpone, you’re less inclined to make necessary efforts. Resolution fades and doesn’t appeal with the same emphasis as first. Keep it hot!
My focus today is the quality of our thoughts, growth attitude, and I will, I’ll adjust, I’ll find a way. Man! Do we understand the potential power we have and if harnessed positively, we can accomplish or make one hell of a run at ANYTHING we make up our minds about?
Now, we’re talking single-minded focus, burned bridges behind you, commitment day in and day out, a stubborn attitude, a mindset that refuses to relent and mental climate that’s daily forecast is – Dance until it rains! This…. What I have just described, is more than just a fleeting halfhearted, some days yes and others no, type attitude and mindset. If you really really want something bad enough and are willing to go to work on this right now, tomorrow, and the day after that, weeks, months, and yes, years, then go and go now; don’t wait. Hurry to your awareness, nothing reckless but risk, bite off more than you’re sure you can chew at times, make decisions and mistakes, but do something.
I’m very much for making a plan, writing actions, and needed behaviors, but then, get going! Write a solid plan. You can make adjustments as you move forward, grow, evolve and you can adjust based on present circumstances. Although, the one idea that never changes is the original outcome and goal. Keep awareness on your thoughts and what drives, motivates, and excites you. Our thoughts cannot be stopped, just changed. With this awareness, your thoughts are a potential gold mine. I repeat – What do you want out of the next year academically, athletically, professionally, relationships, health, etc? Now, this is where most delay…. Do not allow your ambition to cool. The hell with being half-satisfied with life; rouse your spirits and go!!
Don’t wait until you feel just right or an overwhelming motivation that requires little on your part. Enough!!!!!!! The candle is burning; the wax is melting and the sands are sifting through our life’s hour glass. The time has come.
Mark Schwab was recently an assistant coach at the University of Northern Iowa. Previously he spent nine years as assistant coach at the University of Minnesota, helping the program to seven top-three team finishes at the NCAA Championships and two NCAA team titles. As a wrestler, Schwab was an All-American for the University of Northern Iowa during the late 1980s. Schwab earned his bachelor’s degree in 1990 from the University of Northern Iowa and his master’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 2003.
