Home Opener with Iowa State Nov. 6, 46th Annual Bison Open Highlight 2017 Wrestling Schedule

FARGO, N.D.—Five home dates including the 46th annual Bison Open and four duals highlight the 2016-17 North Dakota State University wrestling schedule announced today by head coach Roger Kish.

“Our schedule is challenging, it’s going to be tough,” said Kish, who enters his sixth season at North Dakota State. The Bison return NCAA qualifiers in 125-pound senior Josh Rodriguez and 149-pound junior Clay Ream, who moves up to 157 this season.

The challenge starts right away as North Dakota State hosts Iowa State University in a Big 12 Conference dual at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, in the 5,700-seat Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex. It’s the first of four duals in the new facility.

ndsulogoThe 46th annual Bison Open changes venues and will be held in the 4,406-seat Scheels Arena (5225 31st Ave. S., Fargo) on Saturday, Nov. 12. NDSU closes out the month at the University of Oklahoma in a Big 12 Conference dual in Norman on Sunday, Nov. 20.

North Dakota State hits the road in December. The Bison are scheduled to wrestle Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and then take on SIU-Edwardsville and Indiana on Sunday, Dec. 4, in Edwardsville. NDSU squares off with George Mason and Maryland in Fairfax, Va., on Dec. 9. The Bison close out the first half of the season at the 54th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on Dec. 29-30 in Evanston.

NDSU opens the New Year at home with a pair of dual matches. The Bison entertain Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, and Boise State at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8 in the Scheels Center. NDSU is scheduled to make its eighth appearance in the 37th annual Virginia Duals on Jan. 13-14 in Norfolk. On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Bison will wrestle Cal Poly and Cal State Bakersfield at Righetti High School in Santa Maria, Calif.

North Dakota State makes its final appearance in the Scheels Center against Utah Valley University at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3. NDSU heads West for a pair of Big 12 duals, first at the Air Force Academy at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, and then Wyoming at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The Bison will compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals on Feb. 17-18, and then close out the regular season at South Dakota State at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.

The 2017 Big 12 Conference Championships will be held at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., on March 4-5, while the Scottrade Center in St. Louis is the site of the 2017 NCAA Championships on March 16-18.
