North Dakota State University wrestlers, 125-pound Josh Rodriguez, and 157-pound Clay Ream, were listed in the preseason individual rankings released by InterMat, The Open Mat, FloWrestling and WIN Wrestling Magazine.
Rodriguez and Ream are two-time NCAA national qualifiers. Rodriguez was ranked No. 8 by The Open Mat, No. 9 by InterMat and FloWrestling, and No. 11 by WIN Magazine. Ream, who moves from 149 to 157 this season, was ranked No. 14 by The Open Mat.
North Dakota State is scheduled to open the season with the Green & Yellow Intra-Squad Scrimmage at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The Bison open the regular season with a Big 12 Conference dual against Iowa State University at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, in the Scheels Center. NDSU hosts the 46th annual Bison Open at Scheels Arena (5225 31st Ave. S.) on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Rodriguez, a redshirt senior from Guadalupe, Calif. (Righetti H.S.), compiled a 36-10 record last season including 9-1 in duals with seven pins, seven tech falls and seven major decisions. He enters his senior year with a record of 78-33 including 28-13 in duals with 10 pins. Rodriguez placed third at the Big 12 Championships and was a win away from earning All-America honors last season. He is 5-4 in two NCAA appearances.
Ream, a redshirt junior from Wentzville, Mo. (Holt H.S.), was the 2016 NCAA Division I Wrestling Elite 90 Award winner. Ream completed the 2016 season with a 22-17 record including 4-6 in duals with four tech falls, four major decisions and three pins. He placed third at the Big 12 Championships. Ream has a 3-4 record in two NCAA appearances. He was also named to the NWCA All-Academic and Academic All-Big 12 Conference Wrestling Team.
