Huskies to hang another championship banner on Nov. 3

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team will give their fans a look at the future and also salute their historic 2015-16 season during the annual Red/Black Classic intrasquad meet on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. The meet is open to the public and admission is free.

The intrasquad wrestling match will open the evening and the day will be capped after the competition is over with the unveiling of the Huskies’ 2016 NCAA Division II national championship banner in Halenbeck Hall. The new banner will join SCSU’s 2015 NCAA Division II championship banner that currently hangs in the rafters at Halenbeck Hall.

scsulogo The Huskies claimed their second NCAA title in 2016 after charting a 16-1 record in 2015-16. SCSU won its fifth consecutive NSIC title with a perfect 8-0 record and also placed second at the 2016 NWCA Division II National Duals and second at the 2016 NCAA Division II Super 3 Regional tournament. All seven SCSU wrestlers who qualified for the NCAA championships brought home All-America honors. The group was led by Brett Velasquez, who won the NCAA DII title at 125-pounds in 2016.

In 2016-17, the Huskies earned the #1 ranking in the NWCA preseason national poll and nine of the SCSU wrestlers were ranked among Division II’s top 10 in the preseason poll – including top ranked Velasquez at 125-pounds and three-time All-American Austin Goergen at 285-pounds.

Listed below are the rosters for the Red and Black Teams at the upcoming instrasquad match. The Black Team will be led by honorary coach Randy Zimmer and the Red Team will be led by honorary coach Dan Landwehr. Please note that the rosters and line-ups are subject to change.
