Last Sunday at the Daktronics Open, more than half of the Gophers in the field (18-of-28) placed at their respective weights against a field that included ranked opponents from several other Division I programs. In all, Minnesota wrestlers competed in 130 matches on the campus of South Dakota State University.
No. 11 Ethan Lizak paced all competing Gophers by winning the 125-pound title. True freshman Mitch McKee (133), No. 10 Jake Short and No. 5 Michael Kroells all reached championship bouts as well. Skyler Petry (125) and No. 15 Nick Wanzek (174) finished third.
