Amo Ranked Second; Vikings Drop to 23rd

INDIANAPOLIS – After the first two months of the 2016-17 wrestling season, junior Aero Amo ranks second at 184 pounds in the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll, released Monday evening on D2wrestle.com. As a team, the Vikings come in at 23rd.

Amo boasts a 14-3 record on the season with a perfect 7-0 dual record. Amo is currently riding an 11-match winning streak and has recorded nine bonus point victories (6 falls, 2 tech falls, and 1 major decision) on the season. Amo dropped one spot from the preseason rankings and swapped spots with Zeb Wahle of Maryville.

stanalogoThe Vikings are 5-2 in duals on the season with their two losses coming to South Dakota State and Division II No. 5 ranked Nebraska-Kearney. The Vikings defeated No. 7 Northern State at the South Dakota Showcase, 19-18.

The Vikings dropped to a tie for 23rd after being ranked 16th in the preseason poll. Other NSIC teams ranked in the top-25 include: No. 1 St. Cloud State, Tied for No. 7 Upper Iowa and Northern State and tied for No. 23 Minnesota State. MSU Moorhead is receiving votes.

NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll

Next for the Vikings will be the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis on Dec. 17-18. The tournament is hosted by UIndy and will feature 39 teams from NCAA Division II and the NAIA.
