#1 St. Cloud State wrestling rolls to 47-0 win over Concordia
The number one ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (2-0, 1-0 NSIC) continued its success in 2016-17 with a 47-0 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Dec. 31 in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies dominated the match from start to finish, which included a pair of forfeit wins for SCSU at 197-pounds and 285-pounds. The day opened with a victory by #1 ranked Brett Velasquez at 125-pounds, who gained a 13-4 major decision over Jakob Stageberg of CC.
The wins continued at 133-pounds with a pin fall win by Jarred Oftedahl over CC’s Aaron Dick at 1:08. SCSU’s #6 Matt Nelson added points for the Huskies with an 8-4 victory over Adam Presler of Concordia at 141-pounds.
At 149-pounds, James Pleski posted a 5-2 win over Blane Tschida of CC. Larry Bomstad, who is currently ranked #6 in the nation at 157-pounds, added his team’s second pin of the match with a victory over Joe Heinz at 4:32.
SCSU’s Alex Anaya added a tech fall win at 165-pounds against Nick Gravdahl of Concordia, while #5 ranked Clayton Jennissen charted an 8-0 major decision win over CC’s Jake Johnson at 174-pounds. In the final bout of the day, Uthman Rabiu scored a 20-7 major decision win for SCSU at 184-pounds against Ricky Briggs of Concordia.
As mentioned above, #5 Vince Dietz (197) and #1 Austin Goergen (285) earned forfeit wins for the Huskies as Concordia was open at those weights.
