This past Sunday the RCTC Yellowjackets competed at the Dragon Open in Moorhead, MN.
The team put five wrestlers into the finals, with Coltan Laganiere (149) and Alfred Daniel (165) winning titles to lead the Yellowjacket squad.
Laganiere, who is currently ranked #4 in the NJCAA, had a solid day putting together three straight wins. Coltan started his day with an 8-0 major decision over Leo Kerfeld of Ridgewater. In the semi’s he won 6-5 over Samuel Gilseth of North Dakota State. In the finals, he picked up a 3-1 decision over Dylan Connell of MSU-Moorhead.
Alfred Daniel also had an impressive day picking up three wins for the championship. He began with a 15-8 decision over Jack Barsody of St. John’s. Then defeated Brayden Kuntz of MSU-Moorhead 11-4. In the finals, Daniel dismantled Noah Landrus of Itasca CC 10-4.
Also making the finals for the Jackets was Tyus White (133), Brett Bradford (157), and Ryan Jones (197).
Others placing were Esteban Teigen (125) 3rd, Tere White (133) 4th, Zach Scott (141) 3rd, Ryan Kottschade (174) 4th, Mason Hawkins (197) 3rd, and Luis Pinto (285) 5th.
“The guys wrestled extremely well today. They were aggressive and often relentless on the mat. This is the best that I have seen this team wrestle yet this year,” noted coach Randy Rager.
The team will wrestle next at the Husky Open on December 10th in Saint Cloud, MN. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 10:00 am.
