Aero Amo named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana University wrestler Aero Amo was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week by the league office on Tuesday. The weekly honor is the second of his career and the first for Augustana this season.

Amo, a native of Rapid City, S.D., improved to 22-4 on the season after earning three, first-period pins on his way to a first-place finish at the Warrior-Viking Open in Fremont, Neb.

stanalogoAt the Open 184-pound weight class, Amo received a first-round bye before pinning Jacob King of Oklahoma City University in 1:30. In the semifinals, Amo pinned Casey Crawford of Grandview in just 34 seconds before defeating Willy Cogdill of Chadron State in the finals with a pin at 2:24.

Amo and the Vikings (5-2) return to action on January 7 when the travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on Northern State in their first NSIC Dual of the 2016-17 season. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
