Vikings Shutout Minot State, 50-0, to Remain Undefeated in NSIC Duals

MINOT, N.D. – The Augustana wrestling team dominated Minot State on Sunday to a tune of a 50-0 shellacking. The Vikings improved to 10-5 in duals on the season and remained unbeaten in NSIC duals moving to 4-0.

For the second consecutive year the Vikings shutout the Beavers. Last season, Augustana defeated Minot State, 45-0, in Sioux Falls. It was also Augustana’s second shutout of the season, defeating Dakota Wesleyan on Dec. 4, 56-0.

Brandon Carroll got the dual underway with his sixth pin of the year. Carroll pinned William Horton-Hayden in the third period to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead.

Brandon Charbonneau kept the Viking rolling with a 13-4 major decision over Dean Arevalo. Austin Jordan and Jacob Anderson each earned decision victories and Tyler Nation picked up a forfeit win to give the Vikings a 22-0 at the midway point of the dual.

Augustana turned it up a notch in the second half of the dual winning each match by fall or tech fall.

Regan Bye got a first-period pin at 165 pounds and Ben Goodwin and Michael Lowman each recorded second period falls at 197 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively.

Lukas Poloncic and Aero Amo each rolled to first-period tech falls at 174 pounds and 184 pounds.

The Vikings will return to the Elmen Center next Sunday, Feb. 5 for a matchup against No. 24 Upper Iowa at 2 p.m.
