Coach’s Corner With Brandon Eggum – January 19, 2017

Minnesota Head Coach Brandon Eggum is seeing red in the latest edition of Coach’s Corner, as he looks back on last weekend’s Border Battle victory over Wisconsin and previews Friday’s home dual against Nebraska.

Sunday’s match provided plenty of excitement for an energetic crowd at the Sports Pavilion. A fall for Mitch McKee at 133 pounds gave the Gophers a 12-6 lead heading into the intermission, but the dual came down to the afternoon’s final match, a 174-pound bout between Chris Pfarr and No. 20 Ryan Christensen. Avenging a pair of losses from last season, Pfarr defeated Christensen, 7-4, and Minnesota took the dual, 18-15.

Looking ahead, Eggum provides a quick look at Friday’s dual against Nebraska. Both the Huskers and the Gophers bring seven ranked wrestlers into the dual, a combination that will produce six matches between ranked competitors. From that list of top-tier options, Eggum highlights the third installment of Lizak/Lambert at 125 this season as the top match to watch.

Don’t forget that Friday is also Alumni Night at the Pav and will include a celebration of the 2007 National Championship team at halftime. Tickets are still available at MyGopherSports.com.
