Plenty to discuss coming out of a busy weekend for the Gophers, as Minnesota Head Coach Brandon Eggum looks back on a big road win on Sunday over Indiana and a tough home loss to No. 5 Nebraska on Friday.
On Sunday, the Gophers made themselves at home in Bloomington despite not visiting Indiana in the past four years, picking up bonus points in each of the afternoon’s first four matches to spark a 28-9 win. After starting at 197 pounds, No. 2 Brett Pfarr, No. 8 Michael Kroells and No. 6 Ethan Lizak produced three straight tech falls, followed by No. 16 Mitch McKee earning a major. All seven ranked Gophers won their bouts on the day.
The big road win was a nice rebound from a tough Friday night defeat at the Sports Pavilion to No. 5 Nebraska. Minnesota opened up Friday night’s dual against the Huskers by winning four of the night’s first five matches, building an 11-3 lead at the intermission, but Nebraska answered after the break, sweeping the night’s final five matches to take the dual, 21-11.
The Gophers hit the road again this weekend for a Sunday dual at Purdue before returning to the Pavilion on Sunday, Feb. 5 for the latest in the program’s long-time rivalry with Iowa.
