Mavericks Set to Take on Saint John’s

MANKATO, Minn- The Mavericks (3-3, 1-0 NSIC) will travel to Collegeville Minnesota to take on the Saint John Johnnies (5-0) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for a non-conference dual.

Minnesota State holds a 6-0 record all-time against the Johnnies with their lastest match-up resulting in a 40-3 Maverick victory last season at Taylor Center. Current Mavericks that won matches in last year’s dual include Trevor Schultz (Sr. 125 lbs.), Daniel Close (So., 149 lbs.), Brad Maas (Sr., 165 lbs.), Max Bullock (Sr., 174 lbs.), and Darick Vancura (Sr., 197 lbs.).

manklogo Leading the Mavericks into Collegeville is Senior Adam Cooling (Sr., 174 lbs.). Cooling is currently 21-1, 12-0 against division II opponents, and ranked third nationally. Corey Abernathy (Jr., 184 lbs.) and Chris Zimmer (Jr., 285 lbs.) are ranked 4th and 8th regionally for the Mavericks.

This will be the first action for Saint Johns in Collegeville this season. The Johnnies are heading into the match with momentum after finishing 4-0 at the Chicago Duals on Saturday.

The Mavericks will continue their busy stretch of matches Saturday when they travel to Moorhead Minnesota. Minnesota State will take on the Moorhead Dragons at the Alex Nemzek Hall at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th in their first NSIC action since the holiday break.
