No. 23 (DII) Msu-Mankato spoils SJU Wrestling’s home opener
The Mavericks (4-3 dual record) won three matches by two points or less and recorded six bonus-point victories.
Senior Robert Tait (Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) improved to 6-1 on the year for SJU (5-1 dual record) with the Johnnies’ lone win at 197 pounds, 6-4.
SJU started the dual with a pair of close losses by freshmen. Senior Colin Fisher (Eagan, Minn.) lost his first match of the season (4-1 record), a 3-1 decision, at heavyweight.
The Mavericks will continue their busy stretch of matches Saturday when they travel to Moorhead Minnesota. Minnesota State will take on the Moorhead Dragons at the Alex Nemzek Hall at 2 p.m. on Saturday January 14th in their first NSIC action since the holiday break.
The Johnnies return to action with a 7 p.m. dual at Ridgewater next Thursday, Jan. 19, in Willmar.
