MSU-Moorhead Hits the Road to Face Mary

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The No. 24 Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will travel to Bismarck, N.D., on Sunday to face the University of Mary. The dual will begin at 1 p.m.

The Dragons (4-7, 1-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) are coming off a 23-15 victory over NSIC rival Northern State on Friday night. Sophomore Jared Goldsmith started the night off with a 5-3 decision, while senior Blake Bosch took a forfeit at 133 pounds. Sophomore Kristian Vazquez picked up a 6-4 decision at 141 pounds, while Isaac Novacek won a tech fall at 157. Senior Nader Abdullatif finished the night off with an 8-2 decision to secure the dual.

Bosch is 22-1 at 133 for MSUM while Abdullatif is 15-8. Sophomore Adam Blees is 13-7 at 174 while senior Isaac Novacek is 13-11 at 157.

Bosch enters the weekend holding the No. 2 ranking in the nation at 133, according to the NCAA D2 Wrestling Coaches Association Poll. The Dragons are ranked 24 as a team. Bosch also holds the No.1 ranking in the regional rankings.

As a team, the Dragons are ranked eight in the region. Sophomore Kristian Vazquez is ranked fifth in the region, while sophomore Adam Blees is third at 174 pounds. Senior Nader Abdullatif rounds out the Dragons in the rankings, as he is ranked eighth in the region. The top four in the region will advance to the national tournament.

Kris Nelson is in his eighth season as MSUM’s head coach.

About the Marauders
Mary (5-7, 1-4 NSIC) is coming off two losses last week, a 20-16 loss to Southwest Minnesota State, and a 24-13 loss to Augustana. The bright spot on the week for the Marauders was sophomore Tate Barnhardt, who went 2-0 at 133 to extend his win streak to 11 matches. Sophomore Josh Jensen also won both his matches, bringing him to 11-6 on the season. Adam Aho is in his fourth season as Mary’s head coach.

Dragons on the Road
The Dragons dual with Northern State was their final home dual of the season, as they will be on the road for the final four duals of the season before returning home to host the Super Region 3 tournament on Feb. 24-25.
