This past weekend the RCTC Yellowjackets competed at the Harper Open in Palatine, IL. The trip proved well worth the drive as the Yellowjackets placed nine wrestlers while crowning a trio of champions.
Leading the team were Zach Scott (Holdingford, MN), Brett Bradford (Byron, MN) and Mason Hawkins (Farmington, MN).
At 149 Zach Scott started the day with a fall in 43 seconds over Amir Hooks who was wrestling unattached. In the semifinals Scott won by a 19-12 decision over Anthony Vizcaino of Northland CC. In the finals Zach beat #6 NJCAA ranked Christian Kanzler of Lincoln 6-3.
At 157 Brett Bradford put together four falls to pin his way through the tournament. The first fall was over Mario Rihani in 1:37 of Triton. In the quarterfinals Bradford picked up another fall in 4:15 over Max Fisher of Northern Illinois University. In the semifinals Brett pinned Marcello Macellaio of North Central College in 2:20. In the finals Brett pinned Alex Gonzalez of Lincoln College in 2:34.
At 197 Mason Hawkins started with a 10-4 decision over Jared Lancaster of Muskegon CC. In the finals, Hawkins beat Max Ihry 7-4 of Northern Illinois University.
Also placing for RCTC: 133 Tyus White 4th, 133 Tere White 6th, 157 Jesse Hanson 4th, 165 Alfred Daniel 2nd, 184 Dustin Lee 6th, 285 Tanner Welsh 6th.
The Yellowjackets wrestle next at UW-Eau Claire in the Don Parker Invite on February 4th.
