Augustana’s Michael Lowman Named NSIC Wrestter of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana University wrestler Michael Lowman was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week by the league office on Tuesday. The weekly honor is the third of his career and the second for Augustana this season.

Lowman, a senior from North Highlands, Calif., clinched the upset dual win over No. 19 Upper Iowa over the weekend by defeating fifth-ranked Logan Hopp in overtime.

Entering the 285-pound match, between Lowman and Hopp the dual score was tied at 16-16. Lowman and Hopp exchanged escape points and went to sudden victory where Lowman recorded a takedown to seal the victory for him and his team.

Lowman improved to 21-7 on the season and holds a spotless NSIC record of 4-0. This is Lowman’s third career NSIC Wrestler of the Week honor, with his first coming in Nov. of 2013 and his second coming in Jan. of 2015.

Next weekend, Augustana will host a pair of NSIC duals at the Elmen Center. On Friday, Feb. 10 the Vikings will take on MSU Moorhead at 7 p.m. on Senior Night. On Saturday, Feb. 11 the Vikings will battle Minnesota State at 2 p.m.
