SJU (6-4 dual record) earned a 6-4 lead thanks to a forfeit at 133 pounds, but the Cobbers (9-7 dual record) answered with two pins and a major decision in succession. Freshman Andrew Smith (Amery, Wis.) was ahead 10-6 in the first period at 141 pounds but was pinned at the 2:01 mark.
Sophomore Jack Barsody (Onamia, Minn./Milaca) stopped the bleeding for SJU with a strong 7-2 win at 165 pounds, his 10th victory of the season (10-13 record). The Johnnies aimed to win back-to-back matches, but senior Teddy Erickson (Annandale, Minn.) injury defaulted his match in the first period at 174 pounds.
Sophomore Luke Dodd (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) continued his winning ways with a high-scoring 19-6 major decision at 184 pounds to improve to 14-8 on the year.
The Cobbers answered with a major decision of their own before ninth-ranked Justice Davis recorded a narrow 3-2 win over senior Colin Fisher (Eagan, Minn.) to end the dual. Davis recorded a first-period takedown and accrued 2:03 of riding time in the match, to counter a pair of escapes for Fisher, for the win.
The Johnnies and The Cobbers both travel to compete at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Open at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
