MSUM Wrestling to Host Super Region 3 Tournament Starting on Friday

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will host the Super Region 3 tournament this Friday and Saturday. The Dragons will be hosting the tournament at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse with action beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday.

A total of 15 teams will compete at the event. The top four finishes in each weight class advance to the Division II National Championships.

moorlogoLast Time Out: The Dragons are coming off a 19-18 win over Minot State University. In that dual, senior Isaac Novacek started it off with an overtime win to put MSUM up 3-0. The Dragons also picked up a win at 174 pounds when sophomore Adam Blees won a 3-2 decision. Senior Nader Abdullatif also picked up a win at 285 pounds to make it a 11-9 Minot lead. The Dragons began the comeback at 133 pounds where senior Blake Bosch won by fall to put MSUM up 15-14. After a Minot win at 141 pounds, sophomore Dylan Connell took the mat and picked up a 2-0 win to give the Dragons their sixth win of the season.

Ranked Dragons: Bosch is the lone Dragon who is ranked nationally in the latest D2wrestle.com rankings, as he is No. 2 in the nation at 133 pounds. Bosch also is ranked first in the region at 133 pounds.

Other Dragons who are ranked in the region are Kristian Vazquez, who is ranked No. 6 at 141 pounds, Dylan Connell, who is No. 12 at 149 pounds, Isaac Novacek, who is ranked No. 9 at 157 pounds, Adam Blees, who is ranked No. 7 at 174 pounds, and Nader Abdullatif, who is ranked No. 8 at 285 pounds.

The top four finishers in the region will advance to the national tournament, held March 10-11 in Birmingham, Ala.
