St. Cloud State 42 Minot State 3

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State wrestling team continued its success in 2016-17 with a 42-3 victory over NSIC rival Minot State in St. Cloud, Minn. on Friday, Feb. 3. The victory improves SCSU’s record to 13-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the NSIC.

The victory is SCSU’s 48th consecutive dual match win in NSIC competition. SCSU is the reigning five-time NSIC champion and has not lost a league dual meet since the 2010-11 season.

In the match, SCSU only loss came at 125-pounds. The Huskies quickly got back into the win column with a 2:15 pin by Mike Rhone at 133-pounds. Jarred Oftedahl earned a 7-4 win at 141-pounds and James Pleski posted an 8-3 win at 149-pounds for the Huskies.

scsulogoSCSU got six more points with a forfeit win at 157-pounds and Josh Berg added bonus points with his tech fall win at 165-pounds.

At 174 pounds, #4 Clayton Jennissen coined a pin at 2:02 over Minot’s Frank Straka. The wins continued with an 8-4 decision by #6 Uthman Rabiu at 184 and a 9-1 major decision by Adam Josephson at 197. To finish the night, #1 ranked Austin Goergen rolled to a 1:11 pin over Minot’s Bryce Broome.

The Huskies will continue their 2016-17 season with a home dual match against Minnesota State Mankato at 2 p.m. on Feb. 4. The match has been designated as SCSU Wrestling Alumni Day. Tickets for the match are available at the gate and all SCSU students get into the match for FREE.
