Super Region 3 Wrestling Update: Bosch Reaches Finals, Vazquez Stays Alive

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead senior Blake Bosch advanced to the championship finals at 133 pounds to lead the Dragons during Session 3 of the Super Region 3 tournament.

Bosch (27-1) won a 17-7 major decision over Josh Walker of Upper Iowa. Bosch will wrestle this afternoon for his second straight regional championship against Naquan Hardy of McKendree.

moorlogo Sophomore Kristian Vazquez remains alive at 141 pounds. He won his first match in the wrestleback round against Louie Sanders of Minnesota State via a 15-11 decision. In his second match of the day, he lost a 7-5 decision to Jordan Roths of Upper Iowa. Vazquez (14-11) will wrestle Brad Irwin from the University of Central Missouri in the fifth-place match. If Vazquez wins, and has not lost to the individual who finishes fourth, there will be a true-fourth place match, which would give Vazquez a shot at nationals.

At 157 pounds, senior Isaac Novacek lost a 5-3 decision to Tyler Nation of Augustana in the wrestleback round. Novacek finished his season at 17-13.

Sophomore Adam Blees lost a 13-3 major decision to Batchuluun Zulkhuu of LIndenwood at 184 pounds. Blees finished 17-11 on the year. Senior Nader Abdullatif lost a 3-1 overtime decision to Jacob Borgmeyer of Lindenwood at 285 to end the year at 20-11.

Sophomore Jared Goldsmith lost at 125 pounds to Upper Iowa’s Maleek Williams, 3-2 in the wrestle backs to end his season. Goldsmith ended 14-17.

The championship session will begin at 4 p.m., with doors opening at 3 p.m.
