Darrell Sohn (1935-2017)

Hall of Fame Coach Darrell Sohn passed away on March 17th.

Sohn coached high school wrestling in Minnesota for thirty-eight years, including stints at Fairfax, St. James, Robbinsdale Cooper, and Robbinsdale Armstrong. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Minnesota Chapter in 2007 and the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Dave Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1974. Sohn was selected as the Minnesota State Wrestling Coach of The Year in 1970. His teams won state championships in 1965 and 1969.

“He battled Parkinson’s for many years, overcame numerous joint replacements, surgeries, and a failing heart and never complained once,” said former standout wrestler of Sohn’s Jeff Lamphere. “He lost his battle to live while being transported to the hospital. He was a legend in the sport of wrestling and influenced countless people in his years on earth – students, athletes, family, and friends – a wonderful man that never gave up – but God finally called him home – we will truly miss him.”

Service for Darrell Sohn will be on Saturday, March 25th at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Plymouth (12235 Old Rockford Rd) – gathering is at 1:00 pm and service is at 2:00 pm.
